Which album is supposed to be the difficult one again, the second or the third?
Anyway, Milan Greulich, aka rokotak, wanted to do things quite differently for his third album. Therefore, the basic tracks weren’t recorded alone in his living room, but live in the studio with a trio. The mixing was later handled by Erdmöbel producer Ekki Maas, who also makes a guest appearance. Other old and new friends were quickly persuaded to play and sing on the record. The result is a warm-sounding singer-songwriter album that borrows a few rough edges from blues, rock, and even funk. Not to mention the love of country and Americana that has fueled Milan Greulich’s songwriting for years.
The eleven new songs tell of missed and seized opportunities, of growing older, of good muses and evil spirits, and of a Netto supermarket in Bautzen. All of this, as is typical of rokotak, is presented in quirky and beautiful imagery. From print-ready aphorisms to “Tschi-kaka-uh-ahh”, it’s all there! Singer-songwriter indie folk, that’s what it is.
