Lestar

(German version)

Lestar emerged from the Dresden-based noise pop band Pancake Day, which split in the early 2000s, and have made it their mission to bring the numerous unreleased session tapes from that time into the spotlight they deserve. Musically, Lestar is primarily a continuation of the late Pancake Day, who – free from any dogma – had already said goodbye to the previously fairly central vocals, classic song structures and narrow genre boundaries. They played whatever the extremely heterogeneous tastes of the band members at the time brought out.

In this tradition, Lestar combines a hodgepodge of musical influences. You can hear noisy guitars as well as pop melodies, the repetitiveness of Krautrock alongside experimental prog rock, and occasionally electronic rhythms from the sampler. And above all there is the rawness of low-fi and the simplicity of punk, but without the revolutionary gesture, without ideological pretensions, sometimes on the verge of naivety and always with a wink. Lestar play their music like this because they are allowed to.
