Musically, “Lina” fits in perfectly with rokotak’s previous work: a slow country waltz with smoky Americana guitars and bouncing ukulele dabs illustrates the story of a gangster couple’s escape through the villages and forests of Upper Lusatia. And yet the Bautzen singer-songwriter Milan Greulich is breaking new ground with this piece: after two albums of German-language singer-songwriter indiefolk, rokotak surprises with his first single in Upper Sorbian. “Lina” tells the story of a bank robber who puts all her eggs in one basket with her partner in search of happiness. 300,000 euros of loot in the car, tired and happy, but the police with their dogs and sirens are already hot on their heels. Can this end well? Not likely.
