djummi.032: The Remedies – Candles And Beer

(deutsche Version)

Candles And Beer (Cover)

Dear friends of djummi records,

djummi records, as you may know, is not committed to any particular genre. Theoretically, any music is possible here on the label. It just has to touch me somehow, hit me or, best of all, blow me away. And so it is now easy to present the latest release and, in the same breath, introduce a new band. After the excursions into jazzy, krautrock instrumental music with the last two albums by Dave Schoepke and the duo felsteg, we are now switching to alternative rock, finely peppered with ingredients from pop, blues, soul and funk. Welcome, The Remedies and their 1998 album “Candles And Beer”!

You already guessed it: Unfortunately, we can no longer hand over the bouquet of flowers, because the band from Bautzen split in 2003. Fortunately, however, their music is still there, which I think is worth rediscovering. Because that is also one of djummi’s concerns: capturing music! Music that is created by the miracle of a “band”, a group of people who meet for a limited period of time to create music together (which is usually only stored in memories, but with a bit of luck is recorded later). djummi also sees itself as a kind of archive for such collaborative works of art that otherwise gather dust in bed boxes, on mezzanines or on old hard drives when bands disappear.

The Remedies’ music is by no means dusty. We remastered “Candles And Beer” as a precaution, but the 12 songs on the album still shine, groove and inspire. Great songwriting and sophisticated arrangements, rolling beats, catchy guitars, organs of the finest quality, solos and great lead and background vocals await you here. And all of this was professionally recorded in a real studio! Just like it was before the age of bedroom productions.

The best thing to do is to open a beer and enjoy the record by candlelight!
